Throwback Thursday: What Mainstream Media Didn’t Tell You About Trayvon Martin or The Zimmerman Trial
As much faith as place in juries to make the right choice, the truth is, they’re really bad at their job.

As Martin’s birthday passes, and we endure this perverted christening of Zimmerman as a “celebrity,” let’s not forget that his freedom was earned (and Trayvon’s injustice delivered) through a relatively faulty system we like to call “trial by a jury of your peers.”

As much faith as place in juries to make the right choice, the truth is, they’re really bad at their job.

Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman because he was black. George Zimmerman—who has finally been arrested—may have pulled the trigger, but 250 years of legal racial slavery, 100 years of legalized discrimination when slavery ended, under a system called Jim Crow, and 40 years of institutionalized, so-called “color-blind” racism, is what provided the gun and cocked it in the first place. Urging the “subhuman” to “rise” to the level of Western humanity. Sounds like a suggestion that instead of living in a culture one, as the minority, should always abide by what the mainstream majority deems appropriate. So I guess if that doesn’t happen and something goes wrong, such as getting shot due to “suspicion” of a crime by the majority, your culture is to blame. Or as Geraldo would put it, your hoody.
