I’m the worst with gentrification son. I WILL stare out my window and say “omg it’s white people…” O_O
In the late 90s and early 2000s, Black people in the United States held $.10 of wealth for every $1.00 Whites held [1]. Today, the gap has grown. In 2009, the median wealth of White households was 20 times that of Blacks [2]. In other words, Blacks now hold just $.05 to the dollar. The median…
A very interesting, detailed, and accurate piece on how U.S. local and federal policies as late as the 1960s, and complementary realtor racism noted as late as the 2000s, has contributed to a historic suppression of wealth in Black and other minority communities. Especially of interest to those that think institutional racism is long dead and its effects presently null.
Awesome read.
Ever have those friends that you know would be white if they had the chance right now?
My mom always said if she had a chance to pick any skin tone from now for the rest of her life, she’d go into a dark closet and still find hers.
I’ve always believed strongly in that. Be proud of what Jah gave you. That should go for all races. Being proud of who you are doesn’t have to buck heads with a respect for History and a desire to correct wrongs that exist.
But I do have those Black friends, that think they’re down with the fight against racial oppression… but find every reason to hate everything Black.
This includes Tyler Perry, Harlem, the back of Forest Whitaker’s neck, you name it. I know those Black friends, if they had the chance now, would find the whitest skin possible to put on.
Self-loathing negroes need to stop acting like they’re down for the cause.

Heavy on rhetoric, truthful on where this sentiment really comes from. The difference between this and the George Bush monkey images, is the obvious racial direction depicting a black man as a witch doctor takes, with no obvious implications of parallels between his administration or personality and the behaviors commonly associated with witch doctors.
You wanted Racism?
Yes, yes it is. Because as this article explains, the need to lower your aggression for things you should legitimately be aggressive about is terrible. As Black men, any show of anger or displeasure is seen in an infinitely exaggerated lens (I’ve been the victim of this a few times, once almost costing me my stay at Fordham). It’s ridiculous and used as an excuse to cubbyhole us as rabid rapists and murderers when other perpetrators are no where to be found.
#Obama ‘Angry #Black Man’ Attack
“Appearing on MSNBC’s NOW on Tuesday, Georgetown University Professor Michael Eric Dyson claimed that, in his opinion, President Barack Obama was overly deferential to Mitt Romney during the debate because he was concerned he may come off as an “angry black man.” Dyson said that a tape released by The Daily Caller and broadcast on Fox News Channel on Tuesday night may have been on Obama’s mind during Wednesday night’s debate…”.* Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, and John Iadarola (host of TYT University, and Common Room).

Voting Rights, Gay Marriage, and Affirmative Action. This session is going to be intense, with a lot of the issues we’ve been discussing getting hit face first by the gavel.
Because homosexuality is the worst thing that has or ever will happen to the Earth, bringing about a Sodom and Gomorrah type event.
